Written by the legendary Robert Johnson himself and famously covered by Eric Clapton and Cream. The symbolism in the song is beyond deep. Laced with the occult, a man (Bob) comes to a crossroads in his life, he has to choose his path and is face to face with the devil.

Bob knows he is choosing to deal with the devil and is sinking into the darkness away from the light. Falling from grace he knows his soul is lost, possibly repenting, he falls to his knees and cries out to the Lord in despair.
